Joy Adamsová se narodila roku 1910 v Opavě . Její matka byla dcerou dr. Čermáka významného obyvatele Budišova . Rodina Čermáku vlastnila vilu nad dnešní Kružberskou přehradou . Joy vetšinu děctví stravila přávě tady . Bohužel místa , které měla tak ráda dnes již neexistují . Vila Weishunnu po smrti dr. Čermáka shořela a s ní všechny historické dokumenty o Budišovsku a životu Joy . Opavští historici označil požár vily za nenahraditelnou ztrátu . V roce 1935 studuje medicínu a ve stejnou dobu se vdává za Viktora von Klarwill, vídeňského bankovního úředníka židovského původu . V roce 1937 utíkají kvůli manželovu původu do Keni . Zde poznává Petera Bally s manželem se rozvádí a bere si tohoto muže . V roce 1943 dokončuje 700 botanických kreseb, za které získává v Londýně Grenfellovu zlatou medaili.V roce 1944 se opět rozvádí a bere si George Adamsona. V roce 1960 vychzí kniha Příběh lvice Elsy ( vypráví o životě Joy a lvice Elsy ). Kniha se stává bestsellerem a je přeložena do 25 jazyků. Celkem se na celém světě prodalo 15 milionů výtisků všech jejich knih, Založila nadaci Elsa Wild Animal Appeal , která existuje dodnes . Joy založila národních parků Hell´s Gate, Meru, Samburu , které jsou dodnes rezervacemi pro záchranu zvěře .
V 1980 Joy Adamson je v keňské rezervaci Shaba brutálně zavražděna svým bývalým sluhou, kterého dříve propustila za krádež . Za deset let je podobně zavražděn i její manžel pitláky , proti kterým bojoval .
